[1212] Dong Hyun Bae – Cuvism Magazine Interview [2/2]

Dong Hyun Bae - Cuvism Magazine

Dong Hyun Bae who works hard for his dream

How is Dong Hyun Bae’s personality?

I’m the son who is like a daugther to my mother. My father and Youngbae have a blunt personality, so I took on the role of the daugther instead. To my friends, I’m Dong Hyun Bae who overflows with confidence, but every now and then I’m also the friend who is like the dependent maknae. To my sunbaes, I’m the polite Dong Hyun Bae.

What do you do when you’re not working?

When I’m home alone, I watch movies or I go out to meet my friends or my sunbaes.

I heard that Taeyang and you had been overflowing with talent ever since you were kids. Does this come from your genes?

I don’t know exactly, but there might be a chance. Sometimes, when my father drinks yakju [t/n: some kind of alcohol. I’m no expert], he sings. He has a unique sense of rhythm and he can really sing. And my mother wanted to be a ballerina when she was a little girl. So, might it be the reason she supported us more? I remember that I’ve always enjoyed being the center of attention, so I became class president. When there was a school arts festival, I always joined, I danced and I sang.

Looks like Taeyang was influenced a lot by his talented older brother. (laugh) I changed the question, so I heard you were a sports mania. What kind of sports do you play the most?

I mainly played soccer and basketball before. These days, my friends and I, we have our own lives, so it’s hard to find time to play together, so I don’t really play anymore. However, I do work out every time I get the chance to these days.

Is there an actor you consider as your role model?

I want to act like Ha Jung Woo-sunbaenim. I also want to become a strong actor who portrayed characters no one else did like Ryu Seung Bum-sunbaenim and Jo Seung Woo-sunbaenim.  And when I’m more experienced, I want to be recognized as an actor with a strong acting like Hwang Jung Min-sunbaenim or Seol Kyung Goo-sunbaenim or Choi Min Shik-sunbaenim. Also, I want to become an actor like Lee Byung Hyun-sunbaenim who is every man’s dream. I saw “Masquerade”. He’s such a good actor that looking at him act made me feel small.

He’s every man’s dream indeed. Is there any particular object you always keep close or you can tell a particular story about?

There are two things. One is the mp3 player my grandmother bought for me a month before she passed away. My grandmother bought it for me and told me to work hard to become an actor. I’ll treasure this mp3 for the rest of my life. The other thing is a gift a fan who liked me gave me when I was in the band. I was born in 1983 and this person gave me a jar filled with coins from 1983. It was my first time receiving such a meaningful gift, so I still remember it.

You seem to have a lot of interest in fashion.

Yes. I really love it. My little brother and I have a similar fashion style, so we love the same accessoiries and same shoes. Not long ago, the weather was very cold, so I bought sorel boots and I feel like I wear nothing else these days.

Acting and sports aside, is there something you’ve been obsessed with lately?

I didn’t have any particular interest in my skin before, but I started using eyecream recently. I used to have a good skin, but wearking make-up often and because of the stress, my skin started breaking out here and there. Anyway, I’m older too. (laugh) I wonder if I should receive skin care.

How do you see yourself in 10 years?

First of all, will I be married? I think I’ll be travelling around with my wife and my kids. I have one dream. If I have a son, I want to wear matching clothes with him and if I have a daugther, I want her to wear matching clothes with my wife before we go out and play. I hope to live a life I can take the time to enjoy. Later on, I want to do volunteer work and make donations.
