Up until the mid-90’s, it was the Yang Hyun Suk (Yang Goon)’s era. However, as Yang Goon turned into a music producer, his hoobaes took over the hip hop dance world. Thanks to his influence, the feel, the skills, and of course the speed as well as the dynamic of the dance world improved. The hoobaes who appeared were many, but some of them were notable. Kim Ho Jin who was a former choreographer/backup dancer of Seo Taiji and Boys, Shin Hyun Geun, YG Family’s choreographer Oh Yong Joo. They are the ones I’m talkin about. (It’s embarrassing to say this myself, but yours truly was one of them too)
Kim Ho Jin and Shin Hyun Geun were house dancers who focused mainly on steps. Oh Yong Joo and I were hip hop dancers who focused mainly on popping and the feel. It was commonly called “dance freeze”. [?]
During their prime days, they influenced many artists too. Such as Goofy, Young Turks Club, UP, HOT, Sechs Kies, JinuSean, DJ Doc. They worked as choreographers for many musicians and that’s why they were so important. After the Yang Goon’s prime days of the first hip hop generation, the second generation of the dance era began.
